Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. If anyone can help me with this I will be very grateful. "Options." button in the "Mouse properties" window does nothing. Must enable Elan Smart-Pad with every boot up The button icon moves as if it is registering my selection, but it does not lead anywhere. However, this button does not bring up any new windows. I assume the "Options." button would provide me with more options and may be able to solve one or more of my problems. In the "Mouse properties" window, where I enable the trackpad, there are two buttons labeled "Stop Device" and "Options."

I am also entirely unable to perform right-clicks in any way. Many times I have to perform 4-6 clicks before the action is registered. However, I am still unable to perform clicks simply by tapping the trackpad.Īnd clicking the trackpad button doesn't always work. Now I am able to control the movement of the mouse with the trackpad and perform left-clicks by fully clicking the trackpad. I must do this every time I boot up my computer. Settings -> Devices -> Mouse & touchpad -> Additional mouse options (this brings up a new window titled "Mouse properties") -> tab titled Elan -> Enable device I have discovered that when this happens, I must plug in an external mouse and enable the Elan Smart-Pad. However, once my desktop finishes loading, the trackpad stops working entirely.

In the mouse properties menu I am informed that it is located in port PS/2.Īfter the Windows 10 update I have been having trouble with my trackpad.ĭuring log-in everything works as it should. I'm at a loss for words for how Windows updates does more damage to my system & makes it run worse.I am using an Asus, with a built-in Elan Smart-Pad. I'm running Windows 10 on my Lenovo Edge 15 (8 gigs of ram, Nvidia GeForce 870m, i7, etc.).Įdit: Also noticing that after updating Windows, my disk is reporting constant 100% usage (even though the numbers don't add up in Task Manager). The only solution I've found is to disable Windows updates, which isn't a good solution. My question is this - how do I make sure that this driver is permanently deleted for good, with zero chance of ever being reinstalled without my permission? When I uninstall the Elan "Smart Pad", my touchpad works fine, so it's certainly not necessary. I know the driver's files still remain in system32, but I can't manually delete them, as the parent directory isn't under my control. This thing basically acts like a virus without the malicious intent.Īs you can tell, I'm at my wits end with this software. I've tried using the program's uninstaller, using Window's uninstaller, and even uninstalling the driver manually while telling it to delete the driver, and it always reinstalls itself when ever Windows updates. I'm constantly accidentally zooming in & out. It's an awful design which adds gestures to the touchpad, which would be fine if you could disable it, but as long as it's installed, you don't have control over how your touchpad functions. I want control over my computer, and Windows 10 has a way of taking that away.īut the worst offender is Elan's "Smart Pad" touchpad driver. Sometimes it repins something like the default mail program to my taskbar.

I absolutely despise Windows 10's updates as they reinstall software I go out of my way to remove, like OneDrive.
